FOURTH District Rep. Christopher de Venecia hailed the graduation of 69 students who graduated from an organic farming course under the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority-Special Training for Employment Program on August 2.

To express his support to the new graduates, he distributed farm tool kits at the Roheim Resort and Wellness Spa where the training was conducted.

While those who joined the training were mostly students and young farmers, a number of regular farmers who wanted to learn new techniques so that they can improve crop harvests and boost  their income, also joined the training.

Congressman De Venecia stressed the importance of the course particularly to farm folks in the district where farming is the main source of livelihood.

He said the key component of the Organic Production NCII course is the making and use of organic fertilizer such as compost to boost quality and healthy food production.

Citing the significance of the training, he said even if just one-percent of the food in the Fourth District will be produced by those who attended the training, there will be enough  healthy food in the dining table of households in San Fabian, Mangaldan, San Jacinto, Manaoag and Dagupan.

De Venecia vowed to continuously work for a system that will enable farm products of farmers from the Fourth District to have a direct access to the markets of Metro Manila so local farmers can earn more.

He said he aims to do away the middlemen who buy farm products from farmers at low prices and resell these to markets in Metro Manila for huge profits while farmers are left  with a pittance.

Meanwhile, De Venecia already discussed possible livelihood projects with Department of Labor and Employment regional director Evelyn Ramos and staff that can be availed of in the Fourth District during her recent visit to Pangasinan. .

De Venecia gave his visitors a tour of the “tupig” village in Barangay Tocok, Farmville in San Fabian, Biker3’s Den in Barangay Immalog Sur and Highlands Cafe in the Sky in Barangay Lipit Tomeeng, now considered major tourist destinations in San Fabian. (Leonardo Micua)
