THE Pangasinan Salt Center was officially created as a unit under the office of the Governor with the passage of the provincial ordinance during its April 29 regular session.

Vice Gov. Mark Lambino, presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), said the ordinance defines functions and operations of the Pangasinan Salt Farm in Barangay Zaragosa, Bolinao that include sales and marketing of all salt and salt-related products in the farm.

Its added mandate is to establish programs to help existing salt producers, particularly, on how to improve their production.

It was the committee report that cited the public consultation with various stakeholders and salt-producing local government units (LGUs) that deemed that an ordinance be enacted to support the existence of the Pangasinan Salt Farm.

The center will submit annual/semi-annual reports to the Office of the Governor and the SP on the status of the salt industry development in Pangasinan; and to recommend the yearly budget for the implementation of salt development programs and projects. (Eva Visperas)
