Investors in new energy projects must observe local tax rules, say

AS more investors are eyeing Pangasinan for their renewable energy projects, Vice Gov. Mark Lambino reiterates the importance of observing taxation laws of host towns.

Lambino, in an interview, stressed that the new investors must ensure that their tax payments benefit the host local governments to help them grow economically like in the case of Sual town that hosts a coal-fired power plant and San Manuel town with its hydro-electric dam by the San Roque Power Corp.

He added that it was done in Bayambang town when a major private company was transferred from Makati to Bayambang that made the town become progressive.

He said such progress will also be felt in Labrador, Aguilar, Bugallon, Mangatrem, Infanta and others where solar plants are eyed to be built.

Right now, one solar power project is already operational in Sta. Barbara while another is expected to operate this year in San Manuel and in the second district of Pangasinan.

Another is set to have its groundbreaking ceremony in May and one more entity is also set to operate in Infanta while a wind farm project to be built in six areas in Pangasinan has been presented to the SP, Lambino added.

Lambino advised companies seeking to locate their operations in Pangasinan should first seek the approval of the provincial government through the office of the governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan based on a provincial ordinance to ensure that the proposed projects wil be beneficial to the host towns or cities and at the same time won’t hamper the development of neighboring towns.
