AboitizPower pitches in amid energy crunch

By May 6, 2024Business

ABOITIZ Renewables Inc. (ARI) announced last Tuesday that its 159-megawatt peak (MWp) Laoag Solar Power Plant in Aguilar town is up and running while its 94 MW Cayanga-Bugallon Solar Power facility, which was switched on last October 2023, is adding about 200 megawatts of total sellable capacity to the grid.

This was confirmed by ARI president Jimmy Villaroman who said, “We’re excited to help our country with its energy security, especially now.”

Meanwhile, AboitizPower said the 17-MW Tiwi Binary Geothermal Power Plant, located by the Tiwi Geothermal Power Plant in Albay, will start operations in the second quarter this year using residual heat from the geothermal production process to make more electricity.

It added that the 24-MW megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS), which started commercial operations in January 2024, is mainly used for ancillary services to boost supply in the Luzon grid.

AboitizPower plans to build 3,700 MW of new RE capacity—including projects in solar, wind, geothermal and hydro—en route to 4,600 MW by 2030. (Ahikam Pasion)
