Dagupan receives 2 collapsible fish cages from BFAR

FISH cages in Dagupan City will soon be revolutionized and made more environment friendly with the turnover by the Bureau of Fisheries Field Office 1 of two collapsible fish cages and more than 5,000 bangus fingerlings to the city government.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, who received the donation on May 3 during the Bangus Festival

from representatives of BFAR Regional Director Segundina Gaerlan, said these are in addition to the five collapsible fish cages turned over to Dagupan by  the agency last year.

The BFAR said it will turn over more collapsible fish cages to Dagupan soon if the project  is proven to be successful.

Fernandez immediately turned over the two collapsible fish cages to fishermen of Barangay Pugaro, who like their peers, are still using the crude bamboo fish cases with their nets floating in the water.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment turned over floating oyster rafts to  fish farmers of Barangay Lucao  last week that will enable them to produce more oysters from the river beds.

Fernandez thanked both BFAR and DOLE for helping fish farmers in Dagupan produce more and earn more money for their respective families. (Leonardo Micua)
