Pangasinan rice sufficiency stable despite El Niño
PANGASINAN recorded a 209.25N percent rice sufficiency level, despite the El Niño phenomenon persisting in the country.
The rice sufficiency level equates to a rice production of 830,062.18 metric tons (MT).
It means that the farmers in the province produced a surplus production of 433,382.54 MT, which is the average amount consumable for 13 months.
Data from the Provincial Agriculture Office (OPAG) shows that the province also logged a total harvest of 148,493 MT during January and February, where 88,798.81 MT is consumable for three months.
Meanwhile, the OPAG has recorded 1,140 MT, or 0.26 percent in rice losses.
Earlier, Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III said El Niño damages in the province are minimal. (Ahikam Pasion)
