Holy Week observance draws 600,000 to Manaoag Basilica
AN estimated 600,000 devotees visited the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag during the observance of the Holy Week.
This was bared by Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario during an interview with iFM Dagupan, adding that the peak attendance occurred on Maundy Thursday, from afternoon till evening.
He noted a yearly increase in pilgrims and Catholic faithful visiting the basilica since the Covid pandemic and improved accessibility via the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx). He mentioned that Manaoag is now only eight kilometers away from the TPLEx exit in Binalonan town.
Despite the huge turnout, police deemed the Holy Week observance in Manaoag, the top religious tourism destination in Region 1, peaceful.
Rosario said he anticipates another big crowd during the town fiesta on the third Wednesday following Easter Sunday. (Eva Visperas)
