Two-way traffic on Arellano St. reopens March 30 — DPWH
TRAFFIC in the central business district is expected to ease up as four lanes of Arellano Street as well as A. B. Fernandez Avenue and two lanes of M.H. Del Pilar will be opened starting March 30, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Project Engineer Amy Zamudio assured Mayor Belen Fernandez last March 15 that except a few pockets that have to be paved, the four-lane Arellano Street will be completed starting from the junction of A.B. Fernandez Avenue.
Areas that remain to be paved are the entrance and exit of the Region 1 Medical Center, entrance-exit of Pagasa Village and Dior Village and an area at the Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints Chapel.
But, according to Zamudio, these are now being attended to by contractors.
Mayor Fernandez, in a news conference, said the pedestrian bridge in front of Nepo Mall will be raised to allow bigger clearance for high trucks.
M.H. Del Pilar will be two lane until the contractor completes the construction of the two other lanes by April 30 this year.
She added, two lanes are being used at Perez Boulevard while two other lanes are now being back filled prior to concreting. The project is also expected to be completed and to be connected to M.H. Del Pilar Street April.
Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez belied the charge of opposition councilors in their press conference that many business are moving to other towns due to losses they incurred during the flood mitigation projects.
“This is not true. Business are staying because they now have elevated roads that will not get visited by recurrent floods, including by high tide,” she said.
She said establishments like Nepo Mall, Phinmna University of Pangasinan and Universidad de Dagupan and many others were consulted about the project, contrary to what the opposition councilors are peddling.
Fernandez expressed confidence that businesses along Arellano Steet, A.B. Fernandez Avenue, M.H. Del Pilar Street and Perez Boulevard will continue to grow more with the flood mitigation projects in place. (Leonardo Micua)
