THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution manifesting the provincial government’s strong support for the Magna Carta for Public Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Workers.

“The stand of SP is, first and foremost, to give credit where credit is due sa ating mga DRRMO employees and staff na nagtratrabaho para sa safety ng ating mga kababayan,” Vice Gov. Mark Lambino said in an interview after the passage of the resolution on February 26.

He added that the tenure and security of the DRRM officers are not secure as most of them are either casual or contract of service.

“Nakakapanghinayang po kasi yung kanilang mga skills ng mga na-trained po natin sa disaster and risk reduction management. Kaya sinusuportahan po natin na mabigyan sila ng security of tenure, bigyan ng tamang kompensasyon, para sa mga DRRM para sa mga risks na kanilang ginagawa para po sa safety ng ating mga kababayan.” Lambino said.

The approved resolution authored by Third District Board Member Vici Ventanila recalled that during the conduct of NDRRM Regional Summit of 2023, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) presented a magna carta that envisions the status of DRRMOs for the better and advised all local DRRMOS to support the passage of the bill by asking appropriate legislative actions to ensure its approval.
