CITICORE Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) is taking a significant step towards a greener future with the launch of a new solar power plant project in Pangasinan.

The 240-megawatt initiative in Binalonan is the beginning of their ambitious plan to produce 5 gigawatts of clean energy over the next five years.

The Binalonan facility is projected to yield 326 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy each year, sufficient to supply approximately 136,000 households that will result in a substantial decrease in carbon emissions, estimated to be around 228,000 tons annually.

The construction will be implemented in two stages. The initial phase, boasting a capacity of 168 MW, is anticipated to be functional by the close of 2024.

The second phase, with a capacity of 72 MW, is scheduled for completion in December 2025.

In addition, CREC is contemplating a 270 MW solar power plant and a 150 MW onshore wind power project in Pangasinan, further reinforcing its dedication to clean energy in the province.

Oliver Tan, CREC president and CEO, and chairman Ed Saavedra, underscored the significance of collaborations in realizing their lofty objectives.

In a statement, Tan said that the project aims to “catalyze growth and prosperity across Pangasinan”.  (Ahikam Pasion)
