Decorp’s March 2024 billing will be higher

THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) is set to increase charges this month.

However, Decorp said that this additional charge will help remove or at the very least, lessen rotational brownouts.

Atty. Randy Castilan, Decorp spokesman, cited two reasons for the increase: 1) The  27-centavo increase in generation charge, –from P5.01 per to P5.28 per kilowatt hour (kwh). 2) Transmission charges which cost P0.51 last month is now P0.89 centavos per kwh.

Generation charge is the cost that power plants charge in generating electricity and one of Decorp’s electricity suppliers, a coal-fired power plant, raised costs due to coal’s cost increasing in the world market.

He said the bright side of the increase is power reserves can now be traded on the spot market ensuring a sufficient supply for consumers, even during periods of heightened demand to avoid rotational brownouts.

Total increase is P10.27 per kwh, compared to to last month’s P9.49 per kwh. It means that an average residential consumer consuming 100kwh per month will pay P1,027. (Ahikam Pasion)
