THE Pangasinan provincial government and Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) led the groundbreaking for the first solar power plant in Barangay Santa Catalina in Binalonan town.

Governor Ramon Guico III and CREC president and CEO Oliver Y. Tan led the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on March 20, 2024 for the solar facility that will generate 240 watts to be constructed in two phases.

The initial phase of the project, which is expected to be completed this year, will have a capacity of 168 MW. The second phase, on the other hand, is set to add an additional 72 MW and is scheduled for completion in 2025.

When completed, the facility will generate 326 gigawatt-hours annually, enough to power 136,000 households.

CREC is also set to build five major solar and wind projects in Pangasinan, with two (2) already in the pipeline. A 270 MW solar plant and a 150 MW onshore wind power plant.

This project is part of Governor Guico’s thrust for green investments in the province that will create jobs for Pangasinenses.

According to the CREC, Pangasinan was chosen as a project site due to its ‘investment-friendly’ policy
