TOBACCO farmers in 14 barangays in San Fabian town eagerly await the passage of the proposed ordinance that promises them a tax rebate for every kilo of harvested tobacco sold.

Councilor Hercules Magliba, author of the ordinance, proposes a P20 tax rebate for every kilo sold.

Johnny Paraan, the town’s municipal agriculture officer, said the local government earns P70 per kilogram as excise tax and the P20 rebate to the farmers will be an effective incentive to increase their production.

Paraan said the town could receive P5 million in excise tax this year from tobacco farming.

He said the excise tax is a big factor in the town’s progress because it helps fund construction of farm to market roads, livelihood programs, and many others.

These tobacco farms are found in Barangays Aramal, Angio, Binday, Inmalog Norte, Inmalog Sur, Bigbiga, and Gumot. (Ahikam Pasion)
