THE price of egg in public markets in Pangasinan have dropped due to oversupply.

This was confirmed by egg dealers who said the drop in prices started after the new year’s celebration.

An egg now costs P5.50 to P9, depending on the size. This is a far cry from December last year, that sold from P8 to P11.

Jun Cabatbat, who always cooks eggs for breakfast for his family in Barangay Ambonao, Calasiao, frequents the public market in Dagupan City in order to buy his fresh stack.

A smile brightened his face on seeing that prices have gone down.

Egg-laying hens, despite the cold weather, continue to lay eggs, plus the drastic decline in demand as the holiday seasons, are over.

The drop in price of eggs may continue in the following days, with indications that it could drop further by about four pesos.  (Ahikam Pasion)
