Pangasinan remains top rice producer in Region I

THE Pangasinan accounts 60-percent of the region’s total rice production which makes the province still the top contributor in rice production in Region I.

This was confirmed by the Department of Agriculture Region I (DA-1) as it noted a two-percent increase in its production compared to 2022.

DA-1’s data show that locally-produced regular milled (white tag) registered an 11% increase.

In local markets, regular milled (white tag) rice in Pangasinan now is sold at P41 to P55 per kilogram.

Imported commercial rice are priced much higher: the special (blue tag) sells at P57 to P60 per kilogram, premium-milled (yellow tag) at P54 to P58 per kilo, well-milled (white tag) at P50 to P54 per kilo.

On the average, imported rice P5 to P7 higher than local rice.

Meanwhile, red onion prices have dropped to P85 per kilogram, price of white onion is P46.67 per kilo.

Price of native garlic was up to P160 per kilogram, or a 38.89% increase.
