FOR NON-PAYMENT OF PREMIUMS

THE Dagupan City government stands to be slapped with P500,000 in penalty if it will not pay Pag-Ibig Fund’s increased premium of its officials and employees made effective on February 1 this year.

City Legal Officer  Aurora Valle said the city government cannot pay the premiums because the funds for it are in the 2024 annual budget that remains pending with the committee hearing on the budget.

In her February 5, 2024 letter to Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia, chairman of the committee on finance, budget and appropriation of the SP, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH Valle stated: “We could not comply because our budget is still being deliberated upon as disbursement of personal services has to be based still on the previous budget.”

In a talk to newsmen on February 14, Valle explained that sans the 2024 annual budget and the city continues to operate on a reenacted budget, there is no way the city government can pay and the city is facing an estimated P500,000 penalty.

Valle said the city government can be spared from paying the P500,000 penalty if the 2024 annual budget is passed soon. (Leonardo Micua)
