SP cites need to upgrade Lingayen Airport
TO support the promotion and development of domestic and foreign tourism in Pangasinan, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution in a special session on August 24 supporting not only the upgrading, rehabilitation of the Lingayen Airport but its possible transfer to another location.
Provincial Resolution No. 1351-2023, authored by Sixth District Board Member Salvador Perez Jr., cites the thrust of the provincial government to enhance trade, commerce and industry in the province to achieve its purpose.
The Lingayen Airport was classified originally as a feeder airport to cater to the air transportation needs of the provincial government to nearby provinces.
The resolution also pointed out that “at present, the Lingayen Airport has not been adequately maintained nor any considerable improvement has been made thereat to modernize it compared to existing developed airports of other provinces in the country”.
Perez’s resolution argued that a fully functional and well-developed Lingayen Airport will not only attract local and foreign tourists and investors but will also serve as a symbol of growth and progress in the province.
“It is to the best interest of the Province that the proposed upgrading, rehabilitation and possible transfer of the Lingayen Airport be undertaken so it can help strengthen the economy and tourism industry of Pangasinan,” the resolution reads.
Aside from the Lingayen Airport upgrading, the Pangasinan Link Expressway is set to be built by San Miguel Holdings Corp. worth P34-billion that will connect Binalonan to Lingayen town at no cost to the provincial government of Pangasinan. (Eva Visperas)
