60-DAY RETURN–REFUND POLICY

THE Department of Trade and Industry – Pangasinan (DTI) reminded shop owners that their customers have consumer rights protected by law, after complaints against the stores were increasing.

Guillermo Avelino Jr., chief of the Consumer Protection Division of DTI-Pangasinan said that the “Return and Refund” policy is being implemented in the country, particularly if the sold item is proven to be defective.

Avelino said a customer is entitled to a sixty-day warranty – a right given to a consumer, after finding the bought item to be defective or destroyed.

The item could be returned, replaced, or refunded provided that a receipt is available.

“Yung resibo ang magpapatunay na nabili yung item na nasa maayos na kundisyon. Dapat palitan o i-refund iyon pagkatapos makita na defective o may problema talaga yung gamit,” said Avelino in an interview.

Recently, there have been some complaints regarding school supplies bought which turned out to be defective and of poor quality.

One complainant, whose identity was withheld for her protection, said she bought a bag in a store in Downtown Dagupan. The bag was for her grandson who is set to begin classes on Monday, August 29.

The bag, however, broke when books were placed inside.

When the complainant returned to the store, she was denied of her right for replacement or refund.

The DTI immediately took action, and the complainant got a refund.

Avelino urged the public to proceed to the DTI-Pangasinan office along Arellano Street in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City, if the establishment denies the customer’s rights.

Sakali namang magmatigas ang may-ari ng establishimento, pwede ring dumulog sa aming tanggapan ang complainant upang maasikaso”, said Avelino. (Ahikam Pasion)
