Compliance rate of rice retailers up, now 90-95% – DTI

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)–Pangasinan has seen an increase in compliance rate among rice retailers in the implementation of Executive Order No. 39,  or a 90 to 95-percent increase from last week’s 80-percent.

This was bared by Guillermo Avelino Jr., chief of the Consumer Protection Division of DTI-Pangasinan in an interview last Thursday and who attributed the increase to the assurance that rice prices will stabilize soon.

In turn, the rice retailers assured the DTI that there will be adequate supply of regular-milled and well-milled rice.

As of last Thursday, more than 270 rice retailers were listed by the DTI as recommended beneficiaries of the cash subsidy. However, only 23 beneficiaries received their P15,000 subsidy thus far.

Avelino hopes that everyone in the list will be given financial assistance but the decision lies with the DSWD that finalized the list of qualified beneficiaries.

In Pangasinan, rice harvest begins in October, which is why most rice retailers whose suppliers are based in the province agreed to bear the abnormal situation a little longer. (Ahikam Pasion)
