BFAR: No ‘red tide’ found in Western Pangasinan waters

SHELLFISH from the coastal waters of Western Pangasinan are safe to consume.

In its September 8 Shellfish Bulletin No. 21, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said mariculture areas in Infanta, coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos, Sual, and Wawa, Bani in Pangasinan, including mariculture areas in Rosario, and Sto. Tomas in neighboring La Union province, are free from toxic red tide.

However, despite being free from red tide toxin, local governments are still advised to require their market inspectors, quarantine inspectors, and administrators to demand an auxiliary invoice from originating LGU and a local transport permit for their shipments issued by BFAR.

The required documents ensure that the products being sold and transported did not originated from red tide-affected areas. (Ahikam Pasion)
