Arenas files bill for Calasiao District Hospital
A GOVERNMENT hospital soon to rise in Calasiao?
Third District Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas has filed House Bill No. 382 titled “An Act of Establishing a Hospital in the Municipality of Calasiao, Province of Pangasinan, to be known as the Calasiao District Hospital, and Appropriating Funds Therefor”.
It will have a minimum 100-bed capacity, in the bustling municipality of Calasiao, a vibrant community of a growing population of 100, 471 based on the 2020 Census.
This will also address the increased demand for health and medical services of people living in most populated Third District composed of one city and five municipalities with 304 barangays and a population of over 708,000 or bigger than 35 provinces in the country.
It added that the proximity of Calasiao to the City of Dagupan, considered the central and financial business of Pangasinan, has naturally transformed Calasiao into a center of social, cultural, and commercial activities for the Third District.
“The sad reality is, despite being a first-class municipality, Calasiao does not have its own hospital and the Third District is, in general, still in dire need of a district hospital for its huge population, equipped with complete health care services, with specialist doctors, and an intensive care unit,” the bill added.
She said the construction of a hospital was meaningful because it was a campaign promise of the late Mayor Mamilyn “Maya” Caramat during the May elections.
The Department of Health has expressed its support to the bill in a letter sent to Arenas which she received on the 40th day of Caramat’s death.
Arenas said she is aware that this will still go through a long process but she nonetheless vowed to exhaust all possible means to make this dream a reality. (Eva Visperas)
