DA holds free demo to control Fall Armyworm

THE Department of Agriculture launched field demonstrations in Pangasinan to teach farmers effective ways of the fight and control of Fall Armyworms perennially destroying their crops

The Large Scale Field Demonstrations of Fall Armyworm using IPM-PAMS Management Strategies and Technologies, was held in Calasiao by pest control experts of Department of Agriculture Region 1.

Pest control experts believe that Fall Armyworm may have been transported to the Philippines from cargoes and shipments originating from the United States on board ocean-going vessels that were arriving in the country.

Fall Armyworms usually attack corn and onion plants and are capable of destroying a hectare of croplands in just a few days but have a short lifespan of just 40 to 45 days. In Pangasinan, Fall Armyworms have already attacked plantations in San Carlos City, Bayambang, San Manuel, Tayug and other areas.
