Barangay protest construction of tower for satellite discs
RESIDENTS of Barangay Carael protested in front of their Barangay Hall in a show of force to demonstrate their opposition to the construction of a cellular site tower in their area.
The construction of the tower is ongoing inside the lot owned by former Barangay Chair Minda Velasquez, and across a school campus.
Despite the construction, residents, particularly parents continue to raise concerns over potential health issues that will affect the school children.
“Malapit sa mga kabahayan yung cell tower. Buti kung sa malayo. Delikado sa amin yan”, said a resident who spoke but requested that his name be withheld.
The residents claimed they were not consulted about the construction of the tower.
The PUNCH was shown a copy of documents pertinent to the construction issued by the Dagupan City Engineering Office regarding the integrity of the structure and the DENR’s certification for environmental clearance and safety of satellite discs that will be installed on the tower.
The protesting residents said they are going to exhaust all legal remedies to stop construction of the tower and the subsequent installation of the satellite discs. (Ahikam Pasion)
