FOR NET-METERING BENEFIT

THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) revealed there is a significant increase in net metering applications from households that have installed solar panels.

Net metering is an electric billing policy where a household installs a renewable power source, and earns credit for its export back to the distribution grid.

In other words, renewable sources, such as solar panels, generate additional power, and the households that have it may charge DECORP for its contributed supply of additional power back to the grid.

Engr. Joseph Cariño, network operations manager of DECORP, said they are new 125 net metering applications.

Cariño, however, clarified that for a household or establishment to be eligible for net metering, it must have solar panels with 100 kilowatts input and must be registered under the net metering scheme otherwise there is nothing to be gained from installing solar panels.

Atty. Randy Castilan, spokesperson for DECORP, said homeowners should inform the DECORP of the change, so that they may be installed a bi-directional meter. (Ahikam Pasion)
