Cenpelco power rate up by P5 per kwh

THE generation rate charge of the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco) for the billing month of July showed it charged P15.22 per kilowatt hour (kwh) or a total of P16.9 kwh, inclusive of Value-Added Tax (VAT) and other charges.

This, after a P5 increase was implemented in reaction to increase in rates of power plants.

Cenpelco General Manager Rodrigo Corpuz said generation charge increased due to higher production costs, induced by coal and fuel costs.

Corpuz said crisis between Ukraine and Russia also worsened existing conditions.

The power rate hike began last April, but the increase in charge was only implemented last July. Most of CENPELCO’s power is supplied by the Sual Coal Fired Power Plant.

He clarifed, however, that while the generation charge increased, distribution and supply charges remained the same.

Meanwhile, Corpuz urged consumers to save power to minimize the impact of higher chargers. (Ahikam Pasion)
