HEADS up!

Grounded wires in your homes may be one of the reasons for high electric consumption of your household, according to the Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP).

Atty. Randy Castilan, DECORP spokesperson, said this has been a constant problem being reported to them.

He explained that while poor grounding does not lead to higher electric bills, the leakage of current to ground does it.

The electricity in grounded wires are still considered load, which is being included in the meter reading.

Castilan urged the public to immediately fix their poorly-grounded wires in their houses to prevent unnecessary power leak.

Aside from poor grounding, other factors to look into: defective appliances, increased use of seasonal appliances, overused appliances, defective and/or old wiring, and circuit breaker short.

Inspecting these problems may help decrease the electricity bill.

Meanwhile, on complaints of errors in meter reading, he said refunds are arranged for verified errors but on installment basis. (Ahikam Pasion)
