SP asks IATF to lift ban on cockpits
THE National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has lifted the ban operations of cockpits in the country days after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan asked it to lift the ban on the operations of cockpits in Pangasinan in other parts of the country where COVID -19 cases have significantly dropped.
Second District Board Member and SP Majority Floor Leader Nestor Reyes said the resolution was adopted upon the request of the Pangasinan Cockpit Association to ask the SP to endorse its request to the national IATF to lift the ban on the operations of their establishments so they can recoup losses they incurred from the start of the pandemic in 2020.
Reyes said operators of duly licensed cockpits had to lay off their employees resulting in massive job displacement as industries allied to their operations.
The resolution took note of the report of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rhodyn Oro, a member of the provincial IATF, that Pangasinan has begun seeing continuous decline in COVID-19 cases.
It also noted that the ban on licensed cockpits led to the proliferation of illegal cockfighting in many towns and cities. (Leonardo Micua)
