Plus for jeepneys: No more plastic barriers, up to 70% capacity

JEEPNEY drivers in Pangasinan have started removing their plastic barriers inside their unit s on Thursday, November 4.

Bernard Tuliao, president of the Alliance of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO) Pangasinan, said the barriers that cost operators P 1,000 to PHP 2,000 were ripped apart in a flash as soon as notices were received from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on November 4.

The removal of the plastic barriers also signified the increase in passenger capacity from 50% to 70%. “Sampu sa likod, isa sa harap. Ganun yung 70%”, said Tuliao.

With the increase in jeepneys’ passenger capacity, Tuliao appealed to drivers not to overcharge.

Tumaas na nga yung capacity, kaya sana huwag nang manggulang yung mga kasama nating drivers”, he added.

Tuliao said while all plastic barriers have been removed, passengers are still required to wear their face masks and face shields while inside the passenger jeepneys.

Meanwhile, LTFRB, on Tuliao’s suggestion, conducted road inspection in various parts of the province on Wednesday, November 3, and caught and fined some jeepney drivers P5k for not wearing face masks and face shields. (Ahikam Pasion)
