Local major agriculture production increased in 2021
THE production in various agricultural products of Pangasinan has increased this year amid the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
In a virtual forum on Tuesday, November 23, PSA Regional Statistical Services Office 1 chief statistical specialist Juanito Yabes said Pangasinan contributed the most in the total volume production of the Ilocos Region, particularly in palay, corn, fruits and vegetables.
Yabes said Pangasinan’s palay production in Region 1 contributed 65.26 percent, or 3.67 percent growth rate made possible by its 448,050 metric tons palay production from January to September this year.
In corn, Pangasinan’s production reached to 63.33 percent or 2.56 percent growth rate, after the 355,218 metric tons yield this year surpassed last year’s 346,352 metric tons.
However, the growth rate of mango production slightly decreased this year by 2.20 per cent with this year’s 121,537 metric tons, from last year’s 124,272 metric tons.
But the over-all mango production of Pangasinan this year remains to be steadfast at 70-80 percent, compared to other three provinces in the region.
In vegetables, Pangasinan’s eggplant production is 82.19 percent with a growth rate of 2.52 percent; it’s 79,811 metric tons yield this year surpassed last year’s 77,850 metric tons, while tomato production rose to 3.64 percent this year with 18,463 metric tons compared to last year’s 17,814 metric tons.
