Mayor orders 15-day lockdown in Sual Power Plant
THE Team Energy Sual Power Station in Barangay Pangascasan is under lockdown for 15 days after 14 of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Sual Mayor Liseldo Calugay, through Executive Order No. 32 series of 2021, ordered the lockdown of the power plant from August 26 to September 10, 2021.
In his executive order, Calugay said the power plant needs to be locked down to isolate and control the interaction of employees with other people, which could spark local infection.
Greggy Romualdez, head of External Affairs of TeaM Energy Corporation, confirmed in a statement that they received copy of the mayor’s executive order placing TeaM Energy’s Sual Power Station under lockdown in order to help quell the surge of COVID-19 cases in the municipality.
“We will cooperate fully and comply with the EO,” Romualdez said.
He added that all efforts are being exhausted by their organization to ensure the plant’s continuous operations. “We have contingency measures in place, and we are fully prepared to deal with this situation,” he said.
“The Sual Power Station continues to operate during the lockdown period,” he added.
The mayor said the power plant will continue its operations, under the condition that safety protocols are strictly followed.
Employees are forbidden to go outside the plant premises.
Only the COVID-19 task force, municipal health office, doctors, hospital staff, medical responders, and garbage collectors, and relatives of positive patients are allowed to enter and exit to deliver needs and services.
Meanwhile, Calugay ordered the local police to block the area – preventing entry and exit in all points of the compound.
Sual Power Station is the largest and most cost-effective coal-fired power station in the country with a generating capacity of 1,200 MW.
