60 farmers’ groups get hand tractors

SIXTY farmers’ associations in 18 towns and cities in the province received a hand tractor with complements each from the provincial government, benefitting 1,500 marginalized farmers.

The P10.8 million for the procurement of the hand tractors was from the provincial share of the Burley and Native Tobacco Excise Taxes for FY 2017.

Governor Amado Espino III led the distribution of the hand tractors on July 16 in Barangay Tebag East in Sta. Barbara as part of the food production support of the provincial government to help increase the harvest and income of local farmers.

In his message, Governor Espino urged the farmers to properly utilize the hand tractors granted by the provincial government as he vowed to continuously support them.

Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya assured the farmers that the provincial government is mandated to give back to the farmers whatever it gets as its share from the excise tax through projects that will enhance their livelihood.

Moya said the distribution of the hand tractors is part of the Farm Mechanization Program of the provincial government that seeks to assists local farmers to become globally competitive, citing the importance of mechanized farming.
