A 74-megawatt solar power facility will rise in Barangay Cayanga in Bugallon town next year, to be built by the AboitizPower Corporation.

AboitizPower announced that construction of the facility will start by the middle of next year and is targeted to be in commercial operation by the fourth quarter of 2022.

This will be the third power plant in Pangasinan, the first was the San Roque Multi-Purpose dam project located in San Manuel town, followed by the Sual Coal-fired Power Plant in Sual town.

According to AboitizPower, this will be its second solar power facility, the first one is the 59-MW-peak solar facility in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental which was inaugurated and launched in 2016.

Emmanuel Rubio, AboitizPower president and chief executive officer, said the project is the company’s next step towards achieving its 10-year strategy towards increasing its renewable energy capacity for a 50:50 balance between clean energy and thermal energy.

According to Rubio, most of the energy to be produced by the facility will be contracted for retail electricity supply which, he added, can help bring more sustainable energy to homes and businesses in the country.

The project will generate electric power using the heat generated by the sun.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi hailed the project and encouraged the private sector to support the country’s energy security. (Leonardo Micua)
