LGBTQIA+ not an issue here

By Ermin Garcia Jr.

THE murder of the transgender in Bolinao town last week fortunately did not raise any undue alarm after a sector in the LBTQIA+ community here attempted to establish a fact that transgenders are being targeted for elimination and, therefore, need protection.

The impact of murder of any person, whether child, man, woman or LGBTQIA+ is not diminished by the tag on the victim. A murder is murder and justice for the victim’s family must be had.

So mercifully, the head of the local LGBTQIA+ community attempt to insinuate that the killing of that the male transgender was reflective of discrimination against them did not get any traction in mainstream and social media. We can’t have another cross-dresser like   Greg Martin (of the ladies’ CR brouhaha) creating a scene over a non-issue.

There is no felt discrimination vs. LGBTQIA+ community here. In fact, the LGBTQIA+ community in Pangasinan is gaining respect not because they are lesbians or gays or cross dressers (transgender-transwoman-transsexual, etc.) but because they are accomplished individuals and professionals in their own right.

SHUN SPECIAL PRIVILEGES.  To claim, therefore, that the death of the transgender is indicative of the discrimination, is a complete lie! Persons are killed for a number of reasons but not because of racism or lifestyle. Not even because of religious fervor except when jihad is declared by a fanatic Islam sector or group. Take the recent attempt on the life of former Cong. Spine, the police are looking into several angles but a claim or motive that the attempt was part of sinister move of a vigilante group to liquidate politicians in the province would be plain hogwash.

So, to the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s best they don’t call attention to themselves demanding special protection or privilege as a sector because it only aggravates and promotes division not only in villages but among their own members who’ve earned respect not only for themselves but for the community as well.

It is for this reason that I believe the passage of the proposed SOGIE bill as law will eventually hurt the LGBTQIA+ community because of what it demands, not what it wants to earn, for itself.

WRONG INTERPRETATION OF ACADEMIC FREEDOM. The recent statement of the president of the University of the Philippines at the senate hearing on the 2020 budget for state universities and colleges, citing curtailment of academic freedom to reject calls for stricter measures to contain the promotion and recruitment of students for communist organizations, should be a cause for serious alarm for our congressmen.

It is becoming apparent that the state universities are not willing to protect government against efforts to destabilize it by leftist groups. The irony of it all is it is the government, using public funds, (taxpayers’ money) that’s providing the funds so that our state universities can provide the free, quality education to our youth.

The officials of UP, PUP and other state colleges have a misplaced and dangerous notion of academic freedom. It seems that to them academic freedom is to be interpreted to mean that the student can do or join any movement whatever he/she pleases without being accountable to the government.

The defense of the UP and PUP officials that since communism is no longer outlawed in the country, the precepts of communism can be pursued and studied. But they deliberately overlook the fact that the concept is being applied, actualized and tested through active efforts to destabilize and oust a legitimate government. That’s crossing the line. Their overt acts are seditious, and that’s a crime.

OUTLAW COMMUNISM AGAIN! Our congressmen can help protect not only our democratic way of life but protect families and the future of the impressionable youth by acting to remove the predicate to the crime of sedition –  outlaw communism.

We are already seeing signs of efforts by leftist movements to break family relations if only to tighten their grip on their young brainwashed recruits. Students are told not to be manipulated by parents! Tsk-tsk.

Students given free education enrolled in state universities and colleges are talented and idealistic and, therefore, become easy prey to recruiters for communism.  We are seeing a growing number of young recruits being convinced to leave their college education behind in order to nurture their idealism the communism way. Without knowing any better, their future is already compromised even before they could acquire more knowledge and skills in the university.  This has to stop.

Unless, communism is outlawed again, the unfettered access and application of policy of violence by communism inculcated in young minds will continue to perpetuate killings, elimination of innocent lives particularly in the countryside.  Yet, the original communist countries have already began shifting from their hardcore ideology as a predicate to a takeover of government to a capitalist approach – strong in the belief that a robust economy is the backbone for a progressive, socialist policy. These countries have already thrown out violence as a mean but we continue to tolerate it by allowing seeds planted via our misguided interpretation of academic freedom.

Our congressmen must lead the campaign to outlaw communism before their constituents are made to pay for their indifference today to communism.
