The top areas in Pangasinan with high suicide cases are Dagupan with 11, San Carlos City (7), Sual (7), Calasiao (6) and Manaoag (5)

Depression was the major cause but the pandemic could have aggravated the victims’ condition due to people’s limited movement on account of community quarantine imposed on towns and cities.

Majority of the victims took their lives by hanging themselves, while three shot themselves.

Melchor appealed to local governments for interventions, especially for high-risk individuals citing the importance of family and multi-social interventions.

He said the women’s desks in police stations are also ready to assist vulnerable people. (Eva Visperas)
