THE preservation and development of the historic Dagupan Ferrocarril de Manila-Dagupan train terminal (PNR Train Station in Barangay Mayombo) is again the focus of attention of the Jayceeken, a heritage conservation advocacy group.

The group that has taken responsibility for the rehabilitation of the site, has embarked anew on another activity – greening of the area.

Dagupan residents have noted that while the city government declared the place as a heritage site by virtue of City Ordinance 2125-2018, it has been neglected and utilized instead as an MRF or Material Recovery Facility. In Jayceeken’s view, it has been converted into a mini dumpsite.

To reverse the situation and to accord the place its rightful value, the Jayceeken launched a transformational program starting with the planting of ornamental plants and shade trees.

The Jayceeken has begun coordinating with Barangay Mayombo chairman Ming Guadiz and SK Mayombo chairman Mario Angelito Torio for a mutually beneficial partnership to boost the planned rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, even residents from other towns, cognizant of the need to preserve the heritage site, have warmly responded to the call for plant donations for the greening of the venue. Jumpstarted by cultural activist artist Pope Dalisay, the project segues from the Manrosas ka Dagupan drive chaired by Ernesto Go.  (Julie Ann Arrogante)
