Bani beaches still closed to non-locals
BANI town’s beaches are still off-limits to visitors and tourists.
Romel Dulay, municipal tourism officer, clarified that only residents can access any of the beaches or other tourist places in the town to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the area, notwithstanding the new travel protocols issued by the IATF and the provincial government.
As of this writing, Bani is one of the six municipalities in the province without confirmed and/or active COVID-19 cases.
He said road signs have been installed in all barangays fronting Surip Beach advising public that only residents are welcome to the beach, and barangay officials will be checking proofs of residences of everyone in the beach.
Dulay said the three resorts in town are also barred from receiving visitors.
Meanwhile, local tourist guides have been given alternative ways of earning income via the town’s trade fair, i.e., selling plants, and other gardening utensils.
On March 2, Mayor Gwen Palafox-Yamamoto ordered the requirement of a negative RT-PCR test to non-Pangasinenses before entering town while travelers and commuters from other towns are only required to present their IDs indicating their residences.
Like Bani, other towns that required presentation of negative RT-PCR tests from all travelers from outside Pangasinan are Asingan, Balungao, and Santo Tomas.
Dulay hopes the town will open its doors to the public during or after Holy Week. (Ahikam Pasion)
