FOURTH District Rep. Christopher de Venecia reiterated his commitment to work for the release of additional funds from national government agencies to ensure the completion of the seven-storey Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City.

Interviewed by newsmen during the recent turnover of modern medical equipment for the  Rural Health Unit of Mangaldan, De Venecia said funding for Phase I of the project was already released but funding for Phase 2 remains pending.

Construction of Phase I already started but in order to keep the project going, funding for Phase 2 must be assured, De Venecia said.

The whole project would cost P900 million when completed in 2022 or 2023, but only one-fifth of the funding has so far been released.

He added that the seven-storey building under construction will key up the expansion of RIMC into a 600-bed capacity hospital, from its present 300-bed capacity, pursuant to a law authored in the House of Representatives in 2016 by then Rep. Gina de Venecia, mother  of  Christopher.

To ensure the completion of the building and bolster R1MC’s bid to expand to 600-bed, De Venecia has started to sound off various government agencies, including the office of Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, for their support.

He also appealed to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, a district mate, for help because the mega project will be of big impact to the three million Pangasinenses.

To date, R1MC is the lone Level III hospital in Pangasinan and is the biggest in Region I. (Leonardo Micua)
