AN online raffle of a third year AB Communication student from the University of Pangasinan-PHINMA is making rounds in social media for a cause to help raise funds for his father in Iloilo City who’s been recently diagnosed with cancer.
Jose Robert Inventor, presently residing in Bolinao, launched the raffle — with grocery items, frozen foods, and assorted biscuits at stake – and has so far raised P4,500.
In an interview, teary-eyed Jose said, feeling helpless about the news he received last week, he decided to help raise money to fund his Tatay Robert’s cancer treatment.
“That time po I felt numb and umiyak po ako upon hearing the news, pero sabi po ng isip ko iiyak na lamang ba ako at walang gagawin”, he said. Tatay Robert’s situation in Iloilo is far from good. The family has no electricity at home.
He was inspired by a friend to hold an online raffle after he was shown a number of ongoing raffles on Facebook. Inventor loved the idea and launched it right away.
As soon as Jose launched raffle, his friends Ira Asuncion and Camille Mae Batallones quickly supported him launched a separate activity to assist him in his fund-raising campaign.
“Maliit lang kita niya sa raffle niya, around PHP4,500 lang”, said Asuncion in an interview.
As of writing, Asuncion plans to take things to a higher level by organizing an online busking for a cause.
Jose’s life has been full of challenges even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, he was granted a student loan by the university.
A member of their university’s debate organization, he remains optimistic he can convince more to join his upcoming online raffles.
Despite the struggles, Jose does not want to be pitied. He even urged fellow youths not to give up on life. “Huwag na huwag kayong susuko, matarik man ang daang tatahakin ay patuloy kang lumaban, this too shall pass”, he said.
