Manay Gina produces PPEs for frontliners

WHILE inside her house, former Congresswoman Manay Gina de Venecia decided to make her Enhanced Community Quarantine worthwhile by making homemade Protective Personal Equipment (PPEs), i.e., face shields and masks out of local materials.

The mother of Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, gathered her household members and staff to help produce homemade PPEs much needed not only by medical frontliners and caregivers but also folks from all walks of life to protect them from COVID-19.

Manay Gina will also distribute to market vendors risking their lives to earn a living as well as members of the media, barangay health workers and senior citizens in the Fourth District in addition to frontliners and caregivers.

These will complement what Cong. Toff already donated to frontliners, policemen and military men manning checkpoints, consisting of food packs, face masks, alcohol, disinfectants, and collapsible tents and digital thermometers.

Her household intends to produce 10,000 face shields and washable face masks for distribution in Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, and Manaoag which can be used repeatedly in response to the call of the government for all Filipinos to again do the tradition of bayanihan in defeating COVID-19.

Why face shields? Experts say the face shield is a lot safer gear because it can protect the eyes, nose, and mouth where the virus could enter.

The face shields being produced by Manay Gina’s group was designed by Dr. Ivy Aguilar Teo, who also made PPEs which she already donated to frontliners herself.

She called on other more fortunate families to also make their ECQ productive by also thinking of other ways to help the country’s frontliners and other people in need.

Even Apple, popular maker of smart phones and computers, announced on April 7 that it is manufacturing face shields for health professionals who are in the frontline in the battle against COVID-19. (Leonardo Micua)
