DILG confers 5th SGLG award to LGU-Pangasinan

GOVERNOR Amado I. Espino III received the fifth Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award for the Provincial Government of Pangasinan from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo M. Año on November 4 at the Fiesta Pavilion, The Manila Hotel.
Pangasinan is one of the five provinces in the country which have consistently passed the SGLG since 2015.
Aside from Pangasinan, the other provinces who are now hailed as 5-peat SGLG hall of famers include: Isabela, Bulacan, Quirino and Aklan.
Based on the 2019 list of SGLG awardees, the province of Pangasinan posted the most number of LGU passers with 21 municipalities and two cities. These include the cities of San Carlos and Alaminos, and the municipalities of Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Asingan, Balungao, Basista, Bayambang, Bugallon, Calasiao, Infanta, Lingayen, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, San Quintin, Sta. Maria, Tayug and Urbiztondo.
In his speech, Secretary Año said that the SGLG has expanded the scope of criteria over the years. “Last year, we decided to push the limits even farther and raised the bar to an all-in seven indicators,” the DILG Secretary said.
The LGU awardees have to pass the minimum requirements of all the seven areas of governance, as follows: financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism, culture and the arts.
“Asahan ninyo na lalawak pa lalo ang sukatan at magiging mas mabusisi ang pagsasala ng mga makakatangap mg award,” Secretary Año said stressing: “kaya hindi biro ang pagkalooban ng SGLG dahil ang tanging makakatangap nito ay ang mga pinakamahusay, pinakamatiyaga, at pinakamatatag na pamahalaang lokal.”
Governor Espino was accompanied by Provincial Planning and Development Office Coordinator Benita Pizarro and Pangasinan DILG OIC Provincial Director Randy Dela Rosa in receiving the award onstage.
Each awardee received an SGLG marker and will be given the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) amounting to P4.5 Million for a province, P3.5-M for a city and P2.5-M for a municipality. (PIO)
