AFTER a week of competition, Nikko Andrew T. Gautane of San Carlos City won the international photo competition “Thailandia Photocon” (Asian International 2019) besting 17 Asian contenders.

Nikko told the PUNCH how he worked for his photo entries since they were required to submit three.

For the first challenge, he took photos of the night market in Bangkok and he ranked third.

On the second, he featured the temples that made him the number one for the challenge. And finally, a photograph of an elephant in one of the provinces they visited made him again on the top spot.

Yung entry ko, kaya elepante kasi ‘yun po ang God nila sa Thailand aside kay Buddha. Elephant is the main symbol of Thailand kaya siguro nanalo ako kasi nai-represent ko ‘yung pinaka-main ng Thailand,” he explained.

Combining all three, he was hailed the champion!

His mama Loida and other family relatives who were with him felt proud and are thankful to God for his achievement.

“It was overwhelming,” he said.

Nikko said his win couldn’t have been possible without the support of his parents, his family, PHINMA University of Pangasinan, his friends and classmates, especially the intrinsic motivation which comes from God.

His message to other aspirants is for them to continue to dream, for there will be opportunities coming, to be open for new discoveries and learnings, and to place everything in the hands of God who prepared a good life for everyone. He added humility, kindness, and gratitude should never be forgotten, day by day. (Melody Valenton)
