THE Provincial Health Office and Lingayen District Hospital conducted a half-day literacy campaign on sexually transmitted infection, HIV, mental health, dengue, values education and guidelines in the prevention of teenage pregnancy to 1,300 students of the Binmaley Catholic School (BCS) on September 18.

The activity, held in partnership with Department of Education (DepEd) Division 1, sought to strengthen public health awareness among the youth.

Dr. John Ferrer, project coordinator, said the present administration led by Gov. Amado Espino III wants to focus on adolescent health and youth development program.

Rev. Fr. Fernan C. Estrada, director-principal of BCS, commended the provincial government for the undertaking and thanked Gov. Espino for choosing BCS as one of the venues for the literacy campaign.

Dan Steven R. Tawatao, Grade IX student, said “Maganda po na malaman ng mga kabataan katulad namin kung ano ang dengue, ang symptoms nito at kung ano ang gagawin kung nagka-dengue,” while Jorgina Rose Dela Cruz, Grade X student, said the lecture on mental health on depression provided them information on what to do in case they have classmates or friends who are manifesting symptoms of depression.
