It was children’s day anew at CSI the City Mall last October 16 with 2,400 pupils from 42 day care centers in Dagupan City were treated to a wholesome movie courtesy of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The children, accompanied by their parents and day care center teachers, trooped to CSI early morning to catch the 8 a.m. first screening of the movie Wall E. Late-comers were accommodated in second and third screening.

Excited for their movie treat, some tots reportedly woke up as early as 6:30 a.m. to be able to be first in line at the door of CSI the City Mall.

The free movie for kids has been a tradition at CSI for more than 10 years now, said Vice Mayor Fernandez who conceived the project as part of the annual celebration of the children’s month.

Apart from the movie, the kids also got free snacks courtesy of CSI and its partners — the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan and the Philippine Dental Society, Pangasinan chapter headed by Dr. Lucy Honrado — in advancing the welfare of Dagupan’s children.

Also helping out in the project are the City Nutrition Office, City Social Welfare Office and City Health Office, represented by Dr. Evelyn Dy.

The occasion also coincided with the launching of a new feeding program for malnourished pupils in different day care centers at CSI the City Mall.

City Nutrition Officer Leah Aquino said the nutrition of day care pupils is now the focus of the daily feeding program of CSI after completing the feeding programs for Grades I to IV pupils in different public schools in the city.

care centers in the city to City Social Welfare Officer Elsa Santillian.

In launching the new feeding program, Vice Mayor Fernandez donated 800 bags of special Thailand rice and various food condiments and mixes to be made into porridge or fried rice for the pre-schoolers.

“The fried rice (sinangag) is a different kind,” Aquino said, pointing out that it is mixed with nutritious malunggay leaves to teach day care pupils to eat vegetables.

To promote community participation, preparation of the food will be done by members of the various parents’ committees of the day care centers while the Nutrition Office will provide the recipe.

The latest donation was turned by the vice mayor to City Welfare Officer Elsa Santilian and Aquino to be distributed to all day care centers in the city.

Santilian said the donation of CSI is a big boon to day care pupils because the city government has devoted the whole month of October for their care and welfare.

Explaining the new feeding program, Santilian said this is part of the supplemental nutrition for kids to make them strong, healthy and alert.

“I am happy to announce that the number one supporter of day care centers continues to the CSI Group of Companies headed by Vice Mayor Fernandez. The company has been the city’s major partner in developing programs for the day care centers through the years,” she said.

She cited the company’s deep involvement not only in feeding programs but also in medical and dental missions whose beneficiaries are mostly children of disadvantaged families.

Vice Mayor Fernandez promised the children that they will again be treated to a day-long Christmas party in December.
