DEFENDING champion Pangasinan II took a commanding lead after it collected  55 gold, 37 silver and 35 bronze medals after four days of competition in the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet at the President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sports Center in Laoag City.

The defending champion captured 21 gold, 13 silver and 22 bronze medals in the elementary division and repeated its dominance in the secondary division with 34 gold, 24 silver and 13 bronze medals as of 9:10 a.m. on April 26 enroute to a now certain back-to back crown in this year’s R1AA meet.

Host Laoag City was in far second with 38 gold, 32 silver and 43 bronze medals and with two days more left before the end of the meet, it is now mathematically impossible that it can catch up and overtake defending champion Pangasinan II.
