Pangasinan torches Bulacan, notches first win against 2 losses

THE Pangasinan Heatwaves pushed back Bulacan Kuyas, 87-55, to win their first victory in three starts in the 6th MPBL season on April 17, 2024 at Paco Arena in Manila.

Heatwaves’ Michael Mabulac dominated the paint area in the first quarter, garnering 6 points and 3 rebounds combined with Hesed Gabo’s 2 three-pointers and 2 steals.

Kuyas’ Jason Celis responded in a big way and drilled three triples to register 9 points. In the second frame Heatwaves’ Mark Meneses and Jhapz Bautista both with combined scores with 6 points each to stretch their lead at the half-time, 45-28.

Ed Daquioag caught fire in the third and final period for the Heatwaves and made 4 three-pointers and 2 fastbreak layups to further widen the gap.

Jason Celis tried to defuse the Heatwaves’ three-points streak with midrange jumpers at the fourth but were not enough to mount a comeback. Bulacan got 17 points from Jason Celis and 9 markers from Niño Ibañez at the end of regulation.

Daquioag bagged 17 points alongside Gabo’s 15 points, 3 rebound, and 4 assists and recorded 12 three-point markers as a team to lead the Heatwaves of Coach Jerson Cabiltes its first win of the franchise.

As of the writing, Pangasinan is currently in seventeenth spot with 1 win and 2 losses card.

Its back-to-back losses came the hands of Abra Weaver during the tournament’s opening in Calasiao, Pangasinan, and against Valenzuela City later.
