Umingan NHS secures quarterfinal spot in national volleyball tourney
THE Umingan National High School Boys Volleyball Team (UBVT) earned a spot in the quarterfinal rounds of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) U18 Championships after they defeated Taytay, Rizal in two straight sets: 25-17, 25-21 last April 7, 2024 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
Umingan survived its early attack errors in the opening set, tallying with seven attack faults. They managed to redeem their shaky start with four block points and three service aces to take the first set.
UBVT dictated the tempo in the second set with its scoring prowess, racking up with 12 attack points, two blocks and three aces to pull away from Taytay, 25-21.
The Umingan NHS swept the preliminary rounds with 4-0 record and currently ranked number one-seed in the pool B of the tourney to claim an early ticket to the quarterfinal rounds.
Head Coach Eusebio Solis said despite their unblemished record, the team will be tested in quarterfinals against top volleyball clubs of the nation. “We’ll continue to polish our game and be more composed going forward as we represent Pangasinan in the big stage”, Solis said. (Kim Gealogo)
