Chinese citizens are buying lands

MANY people expressed serious concerns regarding the reported sudden presence of many Chinese students in the Philippines, especially in places where EDCA bases are located.

In Cagayan alone, it was reported that thousands of students are suddenly enrolled and the suspicion is that these students were sent to monitor and provide data on military and political events in case of war between China and Taiwan, and will become soldiers of China who can conduct their own warfare here in the Philippines. (Cagayan Gov. Mamba denied this naman. He said 400 plus lang and dumaan sila sa CHED at immigration).

FYI, Chinese students enrolling in local universities has been going on for a long time but this was never a cause for concern. Napapansin lang sila ngayon because of the recent events happening.

Pero hindi sila ang threat to our national security. The danger lies in the fact that many of our businesses in the Philippines are now also in the hands of the Chinese—not Filipino-Chinese, but  Chinese citizens from Mainland China. Kahit na yong P9 billion worth of shabu recently seized by PDEA and the police in Batangas was highly suspected to be from China.

A friend told me that some Chinese from the mainland have started buying lands in Pangasinan. He said one group even outbid him in the purchase of a choice land on A.B. Fernandez Avenue. And more acquisitions are already being made by Chinese citizens in our province.

So now that all these things are on the table, we have to consider our safety if China attacks us any time soon.

To me, the US assurance it will not abandon Philippines, in case we are attacked by any foreign force, can easily be broken.

Parang lumalabas na consuelo de bobo lamang ang US-RP Mutual Defense Pact because the Americans had actually abandoned us all these years.  It is only now that they became interested in us because of the Taiwan and West Philippine Sea issues.

Take a look at how the Americans are treating us when we apply for visas.  We need to be interviewed in the U.S. embassy but the Americans can enter the Philippines without being asked to be interviewed to obtain a Philippine visa. See the difference?

Worse, did you know that when we signed into a treaty with the Americans like the EDCA, these are never ratified by the US Congress till now. So, when push comes to shove, the Americans can abandon us any time. Kawawa naman tayo!

Maganda yong position ng India (Hi Ashok) since time immemorial. They are neither pro-America, pro-Russia or pro-China but only pro-India. Yan ang importante.

I do not  know how President Marcos can wiggle out this problem that he has created with the Chinese government. We can only hope and pray that nothing happens to us if caught in the middle of tug-of-war between U.S. and China.

I am saddened by the news that Dr. Jess Canto has passed away, three days after celebrating his birthday in a bash with his fellow Akarestas in attendance.

Jess Canto is the brother of my very good friend Atty. Vic Millora, former board member and governor, who also became assemblyman of Pangasinan.

I had memorable encounters with Jess especially when he was chief of the Region 1 Medical Center and helped members of the Philippine Medical Association of Georgia, USA to conduct their medical mission here in Pangasinan. He gladly hosted them and my sister Grace, one of the doctors of PMAG, was very happy with Dr Jess’ hospitality in Dagupan and elsewhere in the province. The mission was a huge success because of Dr. Jess.

Dr. Jess named the auditorium of R1MC after my father and mother, Dr Francisco Q. Duque Jr., and Mrs. Florencia T. Duque. We had many other significant, meaningful meetings but for lack of space in this paper I cannot mention all these.

I express my sympathy to the bereaved family of Jess, his wife Dr. Felonila, their children, Councilor Dennis Canto and his siblings, and grandchildren.

We will all soon be gone too and one can only be remembered not on how much he earned in his lifetime but on how one served the people. And, I believe Jess served his people well, especially those in R!MC, and in his capacity as city councilor for three terms.
