Umingan NHS beats Bataan in national volleyball tourney
The Umingan National High School won its tournament debut in the men’s division of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation’s (PNVF) U18 Volleyball Championships held at ths Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila last March 22.
Representing Pangasinan in the tourney, the Umingan Men’s Volleyball Team rallied back from a slow start to stifle Bataan with a 22-25, 25-21, 25-19 in three-set in a successful comeback finish.
Umingan High School head coach Eusebio Solis rejoiced at his boys’ first victory, saying they will certainly help elevate the level of volleyball in Pangasinan with their showing in the national tilt.
“We’re not only representing Pangasinan, but also the entire Region I. Deciding to join this prestigious competition is a testament that we have a lot of volleyball talents in the province, the development is still a work in progress, but we’ll get there soon”, said Solis.
A total of 12 teams in both men’s and women’s divisions are participating in the tournament. They will slug it out in five weekends from March 22 to April 28, 2024.
Only the top four teams from each pool will advance to the quarterfinal, to be played under a knockout format to vie for the U18 championship crown. The winner will represent the Philippines in the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Championship 2024 in Manama, Bahrain this year. (Kim Gealogo)
