IS it possible at all that Dagupan Councilors Red Erfe-Mejia, Alfie Fernandez, Celia Chua-Lim, Irene Lim-Acosta, Librada Macalanda, Alvin Coquia and Marilou Fernandez were all absent when the basic tenets of Logic 101 and English 101 were taught in the colleges and universities they attended?

I asked because I knew it was not possible that they all arrived at the same ridiculous interpretation and conclusion that the phrase “not favorable” means “support”, while claiming it as logical to block a project that they claim to support!

But, they, indeed agreed on the same interpretation of the terms they used and logic they applied.

I honestly thought I was reading a comedy high school play on reading the news report that the majority bloc in the city council insisted on their contention that they are not opposed to the construction of the proposed Mother and Child Hospital, then whimsically voted to block the inclusion of the resolution for the construction of the hospital at the snap of a finger without remorse.

I think the 7 epaLifes should already seek medical help from Dr. Philip Oliva, a prominent neurologist/psychiatrist in the city.

How could anyone in his right mind seriously interpret the phrase “not favorable” submitted by Councilor Marilou Fernandez in her Health committee’s report to mean “to support”??

But that was not even the worst play of words and actions that day.

When Councilor Red was reminded by Minority Leader Michael Fernandez that the majority gravely erred when they ignored the urgent note of Mayor Belen Fernandez reminding the city council of the deadline set by the DOH for the passage of the resolution authorizing her to sign a memorandum of agreement with DOH officials, Mr. Red arrogantly invoked the new internal rule they introduced – that urgent notices from the mayor must be ignored!

Then read this! Before the majority members agreed to reject the resolution expressing support for the Mother and Child Hospital project, Mr. Erfe-Mejia had the temerity to exult the ghost of ex-Mayor Benjie Lim and the person of his son Brian for leading the support for the hospital during their respective terms.  It was not only a cheap shot at grandstanding for themselves but it was one sanctimonious gesture that only hypocrites of the worst kind would dare do with straight faces.

At any rate, I was wrong to think that I thought I already saw the worst of their kind each time. They always disappoint me with new outrageous antics never seen or heard in governance.

So, Ok… let’s see the 7 epaLifes continue to play out their comic characters with their idiotic acts aimed at exploiting  Dagupeños patience.

WHERE’S ATTY. VALLE?? But where is the City Legal Officer in all these while the 7 epaLifes continue to block programs for the underprivileged in the city?

Atty. Aurora Valle is nowhere and has conveniently muted herself while standing by her boss, if not traveling with Mayor Belen when the opportunity arises.  

It seems everyone but the City Legal Officer Valle see the plots being pursued not only to destabilize the Belen administration but to obstruct implementation of public services due city residents. 

Atty. Valle has not been heard to condemn the unlawful actions being resorted by the majority bloc. Seeing her doing nothing makes the mayor’s allies wonder if she is, in fact, the ultimate Trojan horse that will make Belen fall in 2025 and allow the 7 epaLifes to take over the reins of the city government.

A city legal officer worth his/her salt should not hesitate to cite people for violating laws with intention to harm the city government and the people, but this Atty. Valle refuses to pick up the cudgels to this day.  She obviously fears engaging the 7 epaLifes that consistently preempted the city government’s legal positions? Or is she a fellow conspirator of Mr. Red?

Speaking of Erfe-Mejia, he rejected DBM’s decision on the approved 2023 budget. And Valle appeared to agree because she didn’t bother to rebut his argument. Not a pipsqueak from her.  She’s your typical government bureaucrat who sees no evil, hears no evil from the 7 epaLifes.

Why Mayor Belen doesn’t see her as a liability to the city is beyond most anyone’s comprehension. It’s not like her to keep incompetent people with her. What happened?

JEEPNEYS AS METAL JUNK SOON. The province’s jeepney owners should already start reading the writing on their walls.

Get this! The Marcos administration is not going to extend the deadline for consolidation of resources to be modernized, and neither will it withdraw the modernization program that’s staring back at them.

They had all the time to prepare for the new requirement of the government but refused to present valid counterproposals because invoking poverty always does the trick for them, or so they thought.

By merely thumbing their noses at the government over the years, they now stand to lose their means of livelihood for decades. Their jeepneys will not even be allowed to be registered with LTO. Their jeepneys will rust away in their front yards.
