RESIDENTS of Zone 5 in Bonuan Gueset hailed the announcement of Barangay Captain Manuel Bumanglag that Bartolome Ceralde Street, an alternate route from the Dagupan-San Fabian road to Tondaligan Ferdinand Park, will finally be rehabilitated.

Bumanglag told The PUNCH that Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia allocated P5 million from his congressional assistance fund for the rehabilitation of Bartolome Ceralde Street, about one kilometer long, when De Venecia noticed that some low-lying portions of Bartolome Ceralde St. are constantly under water, to the chagrin of owners of motor vehicles and tricycle drivers.

According to DPWH plan approved by City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, the street will be elevated and expanded five meters wide, including one meter drainage system on both sides, and the De Venecia’s allotment will likely cover at least 400 meters.

Bumanglag said he appealed to Mayor Belen Fernandez to boost the P5 million fund to cover the remaining area. Work on the project will hopefully start in March 2024.

In response, Mayor Fernandez pledged to source additional funds as she has done in all infrastructure projects not included in the 2023 annual city budget.

Renamed in honor of the grandfather of late Barangay Captain Angel Gumarang, Don Bartolome Ceralde, who was himself a former village chieftain of Bonuan Gueset in the early 70s.

The road passes two private primary schools that leads to the Ivory Coast exclusive subdivision and two World War II markers, the towering monument of General Douglas Mac Arthur in Bonuan, Bangusville, and the Dagupan City jail. (Leonardo Micua)
